The OP is not asking how to determine how much RAM is on a System! Simply stating that he is going to acquire a new system with 16GB RAM and maybe will get 32 GB instead! 
I may have confused host and guest in some of these answers - I'm not sure I completely understand which you are talking about (probably my mistake).
If you're confused and do not understand then maybe you shouldn't be responding!
